La Fenice Theatre

La Fenice Theater is one of the best known opera houses in all of Europe. Its fame is only partly owing to its unimaginably catastrophic history. La Fenice has endured three consuming fires since 1836. What's more, La Fenice was initially built to replace the San Benedetto Theater after it was itself burned down (this was in the late eighteenth c.) Another fire destroyed it in 1836 and yet another in 1996. Despite such repeated tragedy, the spirit revolving around La Fenice remains optimistic. A powerful musical history unfolded in La Fenice. Donizetti, Rossini and Verdi all premiered numerous works there. The present theater opened in 2004 and is going strong.
