  • by George Bailey • Published: March 27, 2007

Venice is popularly associated with serenity, and not without historical justification. The Republic of Venice, which existed for one millennium, from the 8th to the 18th century, was called The Most Serence Republic of Venice. In Italian, this reads: Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia. In Venetian, it reads: Serenisima Republica Veneta.
