Saint Peter’s Basilica is the spiritual heart of the Roman Catholic Church. Located in the Vatican City, Saint Peter’s Basilica is the largest basilica in the world with a capacity of over 60.000. In 324 after recognizing Christianity, Emperor Constantine ordered a great basilica to be built on this site. In the middle of the 15th century it was decided the old basilica should be replaced. Construction of what you see today began in 1506 and was completed in 1615.
