Sistine Chapel

 

No trip to Rome would be complete without a visit to the Sistine Chapel. The Sistine chapel was built as, and continues to be the Popes chapel. Construction on the chapel began in 1475. The chapel was consecrated August 15th, 1483. It is at the Sistine Chapel that you will see Michelangelo’s most famous works. The ceiling was originally painted by Piero Matteo d’Amelia. In 1508 Michelangelo was commissioned to repaint it. This famous work depicting scenes from Genesis is one of the most talked about artworks in the world.
