La Scalla Theatre, or Teatro alla Scala, Milan’s home to opera, was built to replace the Royal Ducal Theatre that was destroyed by fire in 1776. Since it’s opening in 1778 Teatro alla Scala has been the home of Milan’s performing arts. Today this masterpiece of architecture hosts not only the finest operas, but ballet and symphony performances as well. On site you will also find the La Scalla Theatre Museum for glimpses of performance history throughout the centuries.
