Mdina is a Medieval town and the old the capital of Malta. St. Paul was shipwrecked here and in turn converted the pagan civilization to Chirstianity. Elevated 200m above sea level, Mdina affords sweeping views of the Maltese islands. Mdina is famous for its restriction of car traffic, which has earned it the nickname "The Silent City". The first cathedral in Mdina was destroyed by an earthquake in 1693. Another was built in its place in 1602 and that buildings stands there today. Mdina is an enchanting piece of Maltese culture.
