The Palazzo Vecchio was built at the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. It’s enormous gothic tower hovers over the Piazza del Signoria below. The Palazzo Vecchio, or “old palace”, was renamed from Palazzo Signoria after Cosimo moved to the Pitti Palace (or Palazzo Pitti). Below in the Piazza del Signoria you will find many canonical sculptures, including a copy of Michelangelo’s David. The Palazzo Vecchio, now a museum still houses the office of the mayor of Florence.
